Multiple description coding with many channels
نویسندگان
چکیده
An achievable region for the -channel multiple description coding problem is presented. This region generalizes twochannel results of El Gamal and Cover and of Zhang and Berger. It further generalizes three-channel results of Gray and Wyner and of Zhang and Berger. A source that is successively refinable on chains is shown to be successively refinable on trees. A new outer bound on the rate-distortion (RD) region for memoryless Gaussian sources with mean squared error distortion is also derived. The achievable region meets this outer bound for certain symmetric cases.

A Method to Reduce Effects of Packet Loss in Video Streaming Using Multiple Description Coding
Multiple description (MD) coding has evolved as a promising technique for promoting error resiliency of multimedia system in real-time application programs over error-prone communicational channels. Although multiple description lattice vector quantization (MDCLVQ) is an efficient method for transmitting reliable data in the context of potential error channels, this method doesn’t consider disc...
متن کاملOptimal Multiple Description Transform Coding of Gaussian Vectors
Multiple description coding (MDC) is source coding for multiple channels such that a decoder which receives an arbitrary subset of the channels may produce a useful reconstruction. Orchard et al. [1] proposed a transform coding method for MDC of pairs of independent Gaussian random variables. This paper provides a general framework which extends multiple description transform coding (MDTC) to a...
متن کاملError-resilient Transmission of H.264 Svc Streams over Dvb-t/h and Wimax Channels with Multiple Description Coding Techniques
The European STREP Project SUIT involves the development of a multiple description scalable video codec for the transmission of video content over DVB-T/H and WiMAX channels. In this paper, we elaborate on the architectural design choices for such a multiple description transmission system, which utilizes H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC). We follow a phased approach focusing on the following u...
متن کاملBounds for Multiple-Access Relay Channels with Feedback via Two-way Relay Channel
In this study, we introduce a new two-way relay channel and obtain an inner bound and an outer bound for the discrete and memoryless multiple access relay channels with receiver-source feedback via two-way relay channel in which end nodes exchange signals by a relay node. And we extend these results to the Gaussian case. By numerical computing, we show that our inner bound is the same with o...
متن کاملOn Source and Channel Codes for Multiple Inputs and Outputs: Does Multiple Description Meet Space Time?
We compare two strategies for lossy source description across a pair of unreliable channels. In the first strategy, we use a broadcast channel code to achieve a different rate for each possible channel realization, and then use a multiresolution source code to describe the source at the resulting rates. In the second strategy, we use a channel coding strategy for two independent channels couple...
متن کاملAsymmetric Multiple Description Coding using Layered Coding and Lateral Error Correction
In this paper we present a method for Asymmetric Multiple Description Coding (AMDC) using Reed Solomon Channel Codes and Layered Coding. Asymmetric MDC can be used when channel conditions are not uniform. For instance peer-to-peer networks or heterogeneous (wired and wireless) networks may offer different channels with different bandwidths and loss characteristics. The AMDC encoder can be desig...
